Roman Auxilary Rider

Description

All these romans were part of a project I did for school back in 2009 - A diorama showing a reconstruction of the roman army at the time of the Battle of the Teutoburg Forest in 9 AD. The whole diorama was split in 5 different parts, each showing a different part of the roman army and its baggage involved. The whole diorama is built in scale 1:18 (so the average grown up figure stands 10 cm tall) and consists of 23 people and 7 beasts.

For now I can mostly show only photos of isolated figures. But if there is anyone interestied I will happily set up the whole thing again and take proper photos!

This Figure was meant to represent a auxilary soldier on horse-back. As every figure this one is posable as well - the horse however isn't since I didn't even know of needle-felting at that point and therefore didn't know how to make a posable horse. The rider is made of a wire armature wrapped up in foam; hands, feet and head are made of fimo; the helmet made of fimo with some parts of metal sheeting. Sword blade and scale armour are made of metal sheeting as well. The shield is made of veneers and afterwards handpainted. The saddle is hand-sewn of fake-leather and so is the bag on its side, which contains four little javelins.
